What does Nutrition mean to the average person???

In the course of a normal day, I answer over 200 food related questions. Many of those questions start with, Would this be nutritious for me? Boy does that question open many different doors.
What may actually be a healthy nutrient dense food, can be a detriment to that particular person's health goals. Each person is a complete individual, therefore two people can eat the same nutrient dense piece of fruit and have two entirely different reactions. When people are researching information, they can get very mixed messages about what is nutritious for them and a foods' particular nutrient density.
I will go in depth explaining what I am saying by giving you an analysis of a "SUPER FOOD" that has been discussed in and on the media airwaves.

SOY - Lower your Cholesterol, Fight Cancer, Osteoporosis, Soy Formula for Babies

Oh NO, you have just hit on the most controversial subject to EVER have a discussion with me about. So let's get started with the analysis.

First and foremost: Soy can be very healthy for everyone...in a FERMENTED FORM. Those forms are miso, natto, tempeh, tahuri, tamari, properly fermented soy sauce and shoyu. The anti-phytates that are naturally recurring and found in soy have been removed through the fermentation process to make these nutrient dense forms of soy.

Soy in it's natural state and the many unnatural states man has created to go into almost all foods in some way is not only UNHEALTHY but LETHAL to all people. Soy in a isolate form such as protein shakes and food additives has been CLEARLY identified as a KNOWN cancer causing agent. Why??? You ask...Soy is loaded with anti-nutrient properties (phytic acid) that bind and block the uptake of essential minerals like calcium, magnesium, copper, iron and especially zinc in the intestinal tract.

Genetically Modified SOY
My BIGGEST CONCERN is even supported by John Robbins, one of the largest supporters of Soy Consumption in the Diet. NO ONE should ever be consuming Conventional Soybeans in any form...it is all GMO food unless it is Certified Organic.
The following is copied from a article by Dr. Joseph Mercola
John Robbins capitulates here. How could he do anything but when over two-thirds of the U.S. soy crop is genetically modified. He says:

"According to Monsanto's own tests, Roundup Ready soybeans contain 29 percent less of the brain nutrient choline, and 27 percent more trypsin inhibitor, the potential allergen that interferes with protein digestion, than normal soybeans. I find it fascinating that compared to regular soybeans, the genetically engineered beans have more of the very things that are problematic, and less of the very things that are beneficial. To my eyes, this is certainly another reason to eat organic foods whenever possible. The best way to insure that any soyfoods you eat are not genetically engineered is if they are organically grown."

Now on to the WORST FORM OF SOY to ever be consumed...Soy Baby Formulas

It is not only the phytoestrogen levels of soy formula (or soy milk) that are an issue, but the levels of manganese and aluminum in the products.

A soy-fed baby receives the equivalent of five birth control pills' worth of estrogen every day. These babies' isoflavone levels were found to be from 13,000 to 22,000 times higher than in non-soy fed infants.

Folks, soy formula is one of the worst foods that you could feed your child. Not only does it have profoundly adverse hormonal effects as discussed above, but it also has over 1000% more aluminum than conventional milk based formulas.

Before I get on my Soapbox about SOY. I am going to guide you to my personal favorite authority on the subject, Dr. Kaayla T. Daniel, author of "The Whole Soy Story." She has taken on some of the highest level proponents for soy and disputes everything they have to say concisely, accurately and truthfully. Her Blog is noted in the Links I Love part of this blog.

Sally Fallon Morell, president of the Weston A. Price Foundation, has written a wonderful brochure called Myth & Truths about SOY. This brochure fully outlines everything you think you knew about SOY with the TRUTH. Sally also has a Soy Alert Section on the Weston A. Price Foundation website.

For the most educational resource on SOY I have ever found, I recommend www.soyonlineservice.co.nz/index.htm . Soy Online Service is a small group of private citizens from New Zealand, the United States and the United Kingdom. They have no industry connections and are not funded by any outside interest groups. Their mission is to uncover the truth about soy and to provide consumers with an alternative opinion to the plethora of criminal and dangerous lies that issue from the soy industry.

As I started this article, my intent was to show you the real need for each person's nutritional plan to be INDIVIDUAL to that person. The same answer to a basic question, such as "Is this nutritious for me?, is not the same for each person. There are no quick answers when it comes to nutrition, all require education about the source of nutrition and you as the consumer of the food. We have failed miserably at educating our children about food and therefore ourselves about their effects on our bodies and our children's bodies. It is our social responsibility to take the time required to educate ourselves and turn the constant TIDAL WAVE of DIS-EASE in our communities today. All foods can be nutritious for us if we preserve and teach the proper techniques in growing, storing and preparing foods. In the forefront of accountability, we all must insure the future of our world by removing chemical man made foods such as GMO Seeds, GMO Crops and GMO waste. We have to go back to cultivating, nourishing and guarding the land that feeds us as a nation with Organic and Bio dynamic Practices that provide us with sustainable nutrient dense food for future generations.

Nutritionally Dense-
